XMA – Extreme Martial Arts

April 9th – Jerry Dwyer, 3rd dan black belt from Boston, MA visited us tonight to teach some very exciting XMA.  XMA or extreme martial arts is a combination of karate, gymnastics, and samurai dramatics that all combine to make a really fun performance.  XMA is popular at tournaments and demonstrations either by solo players or a team of players.  I hope to have Jerry in every few months for a seminar and private lessons.  The kids who attended all left with big smiles and tired legs from all the jumping for aerial kicks and tricks.

Jerry is an outstanding XMA competitor.  He is the team captain and coach of Steve’s school that won grand championship for team competition at 2009 Chun Kuk Do International tournament.  Tonight he lead a fun warm up, rills to build veritcal jumps, spins (180, 360, and 540’s), the kung fu butterfly kick, the K kick, landing in a kneeling pose, and how to use chop/punch combos in 45 degree angles to make the performance look outstanidng.  Oh yeah…he demonstrated his latest custom kata as well as chucks.  To be posted her soon.  Check back!

Thanks for the visit Jerry.  Always a pleasure having you in Glastonbury.  – Jeff
