Kick-a-Thon 2010 raised over $5700
Thanks to all families and students who made this year’s fundraiser a great success. We raised a total of $ 5709 combined between our Glastonbury school and my brother’s school in Newton, MA. All proceeds were donated to Make A Wish Foundation. Great job!!
The night kicked off with the youngest kickers ages 5-6 years old. Each student kicked a foam target held by volunteer moms and dads who kept count of the total good kicks. The kids had (3) 1 minute rounds and the winner was the one who had the highest number.
Next up was an awesome 1 hour seminar/demonstration of XMA or extreme martial arts by Jerry Dwyer Jr. Jerry is a 3rd black belt under my brother and an avid competitor in XMA. He coaches the team in MA who won the grand championships last year at our annual CKD convention. XMA is performance martial arts which combines karate, gymnastics, music, weapons demos, and lots of energy. The kids loved it.
The night capped off with our last two divisions – ages 7-9 & advanced belts. These two groups followed the same format as the younger kids but had increased rounds. The older kids kicked for (2) 3 minute rounds and the advanced belts kicked for (3) 4 minute rounds. What a great event…and I think they all slept well that night after all the hard work.
All kids won gold medals for participating and supporting our fundraiser. Trophies were awarded to the top kickers in each group as well as most funds raised.
Ages 5-6 yrs – Aidan A.
Ages 7-9 – Sean D.
Advanced belts (green, red, jr black) – Cameron M.
Most funds raised – Gavin S., Anthony G.
