About :: All Star Kids
All Star Kids is of our exciting martial arts program for kids ages 4 and up. Classes are organized by age and/or experience to ensure that material is presented appropriately. The key ingredients of the program are:
- Fun – most kids just love the mystique of ancient martial arts. We keep the excitement going by packing classes with action drills and games.
- Life Skills – each class starts with “mat chat” lessons to discuss topics that the kids will use at practice and beyond. (confidence, positive attitude, dealing with bullies, etc) Prior to belt tests the kids bring home an interactive worksheet to complete with mom or dad on the topic discussed.
- Physical Fitness – warm up exercise and training games build strength, flexibility, and coordination.
- Self Defense – kids will learn on their very first trial class that fighting is wrong and always a last resort. They will learn and role play how to ignore and avoid bullies. But if your child finds themselves in a fight they will know the basics of protecting themselves.
- Achievement – students are promoted through a series of belts (white to jr. black) to signify their improvement. Promotions occur approx every 2-3 months and really motivate students. One of the unique benefits of karate class is the feel of a team sport when practicing with fellow students…but the ability to excel based on individual effort.

How are we different?
1. This not a “McDojo” so common among franchised martial arts studios. You never sign long-term contracts, pay for belt testing, or are forced to buy “required” merchandise in order to progress. Our goal is to focus on quality classes that are fun for the kids. No tricky business tactics.
2. No nonsense approach to teaching kids. We understand that kids will be kids. They are unique in their personalities and goals. Not all students learn at the same pace and most will not make it to black belt. No problem. Even if your child enjoys a few months they will have gained some great lessons about confidence, goal setting, perseverance, and self-defense. And for the kids who show desire to make black belt we will support and challenge them to achieve their goal.
3. Affiliations to established organizations. Chuck Norris founded the UFAF organization 25 years ago. Since then it has become a world-wide association with regional testing boards, and a truly awesome convention and competition held each year in Las Vegas, NV. Carlos Machado is a master level instructor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and one of the first to bring BJJ to America. Our school is affiliated with both of these associations. Why is this important? It provides a path for our students to continue their learning, teaching, and competing. You earn your black belt based on standards and test in front of an experienced board of black belts vs. your local instructor only.
Testimonials
Dear Parent,
You may be thinking, “How can the martial arts really benefit my child?” Well, I’m here to tell you all the ways that my program can benefit your child in a positive way. My secret is that I make each and every class FUN. Kids love the challenging and exciting movements of karate and jiu jitsu. But in order for them to participate they must follow the dojo rules. All kids must behave and listen during class. That’s how I instill the most valuable lessons! They get the most benefit from the part of class that is just a requirement in order to get to the drills, games, and physical practice.
I have found that this basic premise works. Kids that are shy break out of their shells in order to participate. And kids that have a hard time controlling their energy learn to do so in order to be a part of the action. All the while they make new friends and have a team of classmates…although they really playing an individual sport.
My name is Jeff Giroux, Coach of Giroux Bros. in Glastonbury, CT. For 25 years now, I have been teaching children character building tools found only in a well run martial arts class. These tools are not found in other sports. Unlike other activities, we clearly integrate valuable life skills as part of the program. Not only are students tested on their martial arts skills but each testing period they are required to complete a short homework assignment with you that will help them understand the particular life skill affects their life. I take a sincere interest in all of my students and have designed this program to help them succeed. – Jeff
“Coach Jeff is like Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid. I brought my daughter into another school nearby and it was Cobra Kai. I have been very pleased with All Star Kids.”
- Father of (2) girl students
“Jeff is great with the kids. He makes the classes fun and doesn’t just bark out orders. He gets out there and shows them how it should be done. My son attended a birthday party at another karate school and it was not for us. My son was intimidated and didn’t really enjoy the party.”
- Mother of 6 year old boy student
“Thank you for being so patient with the kids. My boys LOVE karate!”
- Mom of (2) boy students
