Programs

Pee Wees - ages 3 & 4 held periodically throughout the year.

All Star Kids - ages 5 and up held weekly.  Classes are grouped by age and skill (5-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs, and 10+ yrs).

Teens - ages 13 and up held weekly.  Exciting, challenging, and positive activity for your teenager.

How are we DIFFERENT?

1.  GBMA is not a "McDojo" so common among martial arts studios.  You never sign long-term contracts, pay for belt testing, or are forced to buy required uniforms, gear, & merchandise as your child progresses.  Our goal is to focus on quality classes that are fun for the kids.  Not tricky business tactics.

2.  No nonsense approach to teaching kids.  We understand that kids will be kids.  They are unique in their personalities and goals.  Not all students learn at the same pace and most will not make it to black belt.  No problem.  Even if your child enjoys a few months they will have gained some great lessons about confidence, goal setting, perseverance, and self-defense.  And for the kids who show desire to make black belt we will support and challenge them to achieve their goal.

3.  Affiliation to UFAF.  Chuck Norris founded the UFAF organization 25 years ago.  Since then it has become a world-wide association with regional testing boards, and a truly awesome convention and competition held each year in Las Vegas, NV.  Why is this important?  It provides a path for our martial artists to continue their learning, teaching, and competing.  You earn your black belt based on UFAF standards and test in front of a board of black belts in our region vs. your local instructor.

Dear Parent,

You may be thinking, "How can the martial arts really benefit my child?"  Well, I'm here to tell you all the ways that my program can benefit your child in a positive way.

My secret is that I make each and every class FUN.  Kids love the challenging and exciting movements of karate and jiu jitsu.  But in order for them to participate they must follow the dojo rules.  All kids must behave and listen during class.  That's how I instill the most valuable lessons!  They get the most benefit from the part of class that is just a requirement in order to get to the drills, games, and physical practice.

I have found that this basic premise works.  Kids that are shy break out of their shells in order to participate.  And kids that have a hard time controlling their energy learn to do so in order to be a part of the action.  All the while they make new friends and have a team of classmates...although they really playing an individual sport.

My name is Jeff Giroux, Coach of Giroux Bros. in Glastonbury, CT. For 24 years now, I have been teaching children like yours character building tools found only in a well run martial arts class.  These tools are not found in other sports.  Unlike other activities, we clearly promote valuable life skills as part of their program.  Not only are students tested on their martial arts skills but each testing period they are required to complete a short homework assignment that will help them truly understand how each valuable life skill affects their life.  We take a sincere interest in all of our students and want them to succeed in life.

Have you ever found yourself:

  • Concerned about your child's level of self-control?
  • Wishing your child had greater ability to listen...to focus?
  • Wondering, painfully, if your son or daughter has the self-esteem it takes to be successful?
  • Concerned that your son or daughter would rather play video games or watch TV. than socialize with others?
  • Upset that your child is overweight and no extra curricular program you've enrolled them in sparks their interest?

Well, you're not alone!  Even though we want our children to be healthy, happy, and confident--they are confronted with an increasingly complicated and difficult world with many unhealthy distractions.

Our children's program is designed to reinforce strength of character.  While your child’s body is strengthened through exercise, they also learn goal setting, respect, and discipline.  Watch as your child increases in energy, spirit, and confidence.  A child's first challenge in life is not learned from "beating up the school yard bully".  It comes from overcoming something far more dangerous.  I'm talking about your child's own fears and self doubts:

  • "I don't get it, I'm stupid."
  • "I wish I was as popular as the other kids."
  • "Why am I always the last one to get picked?"
  • "I'll never be as smart as that kid."

So the real question is, how do you get your child to overcome these fears and self doubts?  The good news is that we have a proven program that will help your child overcome these fears.  Students at our studio will gain confidence as they progress through their belts, truly understand how the life skills taught affects their life, and improve their grades.  Our program also teaches students about goal setting and perseverance.  Let's face it...life is not easy.  We all have been confronted with obstacles in our life. How we handle these situations is what determines our sense of character.  I feel that when children use self discipline to conquer their fears they will be able to transfer that discipline to other areas in their life. I've see countless children improve their life as a result of our program whether it was in school, social situations, or at home.  But don't take my word for it...

"Coach Jeff is like Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid.  I brought my daughter into another school nearby and it was Cobra Kai.  I have been very pleased with All Star Kids."

- Father of (2) girl students

“Jeff is great with the kids.  He makes the classes fun and doesn't just bark out orders.  He gets out  there and shows them how it should be done.  My son attended a birthday party at another karate school and it was not for us.  My son was intimidated and didn't really enjoy the party."

- Mother of 6 year old boy student

"Thank you for being so patient with the kids.  My boys LOVE karate!"

- Mom of (2) boy students

Now, you may be wondering why practicing martial arts does such a great job in teaching values and life skills.  Again, more than any other sport the practice of karate gives your child the chance to explore his or her potential.  We actually teach about these life skills through our "mat chats" (interactive discussions at the beginning or end of classes).  In our classes, your child will learn about:

  • goal setting
  • sportsmanship
  • courage
  • discipline
  • integrity

  • respect
  • self-control
  • focus
  • self-confidence
  • perseverance
